Experience

I have experience tutoring students from many backgrounds and age groups, from helping foreign language students write their essays in English, to instructing creative writing, and elementary reading. I have also tutored autistic children and honors students from both psychology and English classrooms. I absolutely love the art of language as well as science and enjoy helping students with writing essays, reading comprehension and analysis, and basic and complex psychology theories. I believe it is important to develop a strong understanding of technical concepts prior to freely playing with words. My love of language began when I was very young, and I continue to enjoy exploring concepts of human empathy and how we interact with others and the world. I strive to problem solve with originality, so students can see that there is more than one way to navigate through difficult concepts.  Learning is an art that is tremendously rewarding if given the right tools so that you can be self confident and excited about your work. With patience, understanding, and compassion, I work to impart those tools. I have a BA in psychology and writing from Bard College, and am currently at work on my first novel. I enjoy the outdoors when I am not tutoring or writing.
